Inara Aster Dodson enjoys working in a variety of media including watercolor, acrylic, oil, and collage.  She constantly explores new techniques, bridging the gap between outward appearances and her inner vision.  Hence, her paintings capture a feeling of peace and beauty; the transparent colors and textured surfaces produce a unique and dreamlike quality to her work.

A native of Latvia, Inara has made her home in Danville, Virginia since 1971, where she is recognized for her abilities as a teacher and demonstrator.  She has taught art since the early 1970’s, first in her own studio, later in sessions at Averett University and Danville Community College, and at Reynolds Homestead in Critz, Virginia.

Educated in the field of science, Inara Aster Dodson received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Temple University in Philadelphia.  Her art training came later when she studied with numerous nationally acclaimed artists throughout the United States.  She has also attended the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, NC and Averett University, Danville, VA.

Inara is a productive artist with many one-woman exhibitions added to her credentials.  Her work has been exhibited at the following galleries:

Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History, Danville, VA

Davis Gallery, Martinsville, VA

Sawtooth Gallery, Winston-Salem, NC

Reynolds Homestead, Critz, NC

Latvian Society, Philadelphia, PA

The quality of Inara’s work has been recognized by art critics who have awarded her many “Best in Show” awards.  The Danville Chamber of Commerce has made a limited edition reproduction of one of her works.  Many of her paintings are housed in corporate and public collections throughout the United States.

Inara Dodson is currently a member of the Danville Art League, where she is a founding member and was first President of the Danville Art League.
