Lanie Davis, reporter for the Star Tribune wrote that within the past 88 years, the Garden Club of Virginia’s Historic Garden Week festivities have only been canceled twice, during World War II and last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, the Historic Garden Week will take place April 17-24 and continue with their tradition of tours, with added changes and safety precautions. Twenty-five tours of homes and gardens organized by 48 member clubs will take place across the state during that week, at the peak of spring blooming. An estimated 2,200 floral arrangements statewide will be created to enhance their properties.
Locally, the Gabriella and Chatham Garden Clubs and the Garden Club of Danville are hosting a tour of properties in Danville and Chatham on April 22.
This year is the first time the tour has ever highlighted these tobacco barns. Extra safety precautions will be taken on tours, Walker said. All ticket sales will be online, and there will be a limited number available.
