Artist statement Judy Arkell
The wonderful feel of charcoal and pastel on paper. the love of all things Victorian, bits of lace , pretty teapots and flowers from my garden combine to make still life's an enjoyable part of my life.
Judith Arkell was born in Detroit Michigan. She graduated from the Detroit Society of the Arts and Crafts/Center for Creative Study in 1960.
She has worked in Birmingham Michigan as a freelance artist and has shown her art at the Detroit Artist Market and various art fairs.
She moved to Virginia in 1993
She has participated in the Piedmont Art Center’s Christmas Art Fair for several years.
She teacher pastel and charcoal drawing and is a member of the Market Gallery in Roanoke, Virginia.
She lives in Penhook, Virginia with her husband Ross.

These shaped painting are mainly of women and a few men.
Their circumstances are benign and/or ambiguous.
I borrow whatever can be provided towards building a visual idea or story with imagination and humor.
The title may provide some clarity.
