Lecture on Chinese Art
On Tuesday afternoon August 14, 2018 at 1 pm, the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History will have a lecture by Dr. Ling-ting Chiu. She is a visiting scholar from Taiwan (Republic of China) who has gotten a Fulbright research grant and will be spending three months in Lexington this summer to gather information about I-Hsiung Ju, his art and his activities at W&L. He initiated and ran a study program at W&L, which brought W&L students to Taiwan to study art and culture of Taiwan. Hence, W&L received works by the artists they visited in Taiwan or that were invited to Lexington. The Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History was also given paintings from the National Museum of History of Republic of China (Taiwan) when he was professor at Washington and Lee University. Dr. Ling-ting Chiu comes to Danville to study these works. Her lecture and research are titled, "The Transition of Traditional Chinese Art into Contemporary Art: The Artistic Realization of overseas Chinese artists in the United States."
This is a free event and the public is invited.
