Storytelling Festival
February 1, 2020 thru February 1, 2020Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
This festival is a family-oriented event that acts as an “artistic social bridge” - bringing communities together and celebrating how we are all connected using the rich tradition of storytelling, performances, and activism. Storytellers, also known as “Griots,” perform in different Museum galleries, telling stories throughout the day, collectively creating a multi-cultural and generational experience.
Artist in Residence: Karen Williamson

The DMFAH IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE FEBRUARY RESIDENCY
Karen Williamson, will be a DMFAH artist in residence from February 3 – February 13, 2020. During her February residency Williamson will create a video that can be described as “history harvesting”. She will procure and record local conversations with the Danville community and record undocumented narratives. She will be focusing on recording the following participants Kelly Cunningham; Diron Clemnts; Kit Mayo; Fred Motley; Kate McDannold; Karice Luck-Brimmer; Gayle Breakley and Sonya Wolen.

BIO | PRESENTER, Karen Williamson
Karen Williamson, born in the mid-west, raised in the suburbs of Washington DC and currently living in Caswell County, NC, is a Board Member for the Thomas Day House/Union Tavern in Milton, NC. Williamson is the historian for the Danville, Virginia Chapter of the African American Historical & Genealogical Society (AAHGS). Williamson is a strong advocate of programs/information that advances the study and tells the rich stories of African American genealogy and history; especially those stories that originate from the Caswell County, NC, and Danville, VA areas. Karen is a 1986 graduate of James Madison University with a major in Marketing and a minor in Dance Theater. Professionally, she has been a sales rep for Honeywell, Johnson & Johnson/McNeil, and PepsiCo. Avocationally, she is an award winning artist in photography and reed weaving.

The Danville Little Theatre proudly presents Country Love: A Musical Review Dedicated to Mrs. Jean Vernon. Country Love features the best of Country Music by some of Danville's best vocalist.Country Love will be at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History on February 14 at 7PM. Tickets at $28 and include a picnic dinner, iced tea, and a Rose for the Ladies. Reservations MUST be made NO LATER than February 11 at 5PM through Crema & Vine.
