Danville Art League Juried Show

The Danville Art League (DAL) is having its annual juried exhibition, “Falling Back”, at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History beginning October 25, 2015. “Falling Back” is a play on words alluding to a time for all of us to put down our electronic devices and get back to the joy and appreciation of the creative works of our fellowmen.

This fall event is one of DAL’s two major exhibitions each year; the spring event is a “members only” exhibition, whereas the fall event is open to all artists. Historically, professional artists and faculty from Danville Community College, Forsyth Tech and Rockingham Community College have submitted their works for the fall show, joining Southside Virginia and North Central North Carolina amateur and professional artists. The year’s exhibition is similarly expected to draw participants from throughout those same locales.

The DAL is happy to announce that two additional categories of art will join the traditional painting category; those are photography/digital photography and 3-D (sculptures, etal). Cash prizes, ribbons and Purchase Awards are featured in this fall’s event.

The public is invited to join DAL members and participating artists at the opening reception for the “Falling Back” exhibition at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History located at 975 Main Street in Danville, Virginia on Sunday, October 25, 2015, between 2:30-4:00 p.m. This will be a wonderful opportunity to see the show which includes paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolor, as well as photography/digital photography, graphite and charcoal drawings, ceramics, jewelry and more. The juror for this year’s show is Michael D. Fels, chair of the Department of Art and Art History at Elon University. Award winners will be announced at the reception.

The Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History has been a long-time supporter of DAL. In fact, it has supported DAL since 1980. That was the year a group of local artists gathered together and created this organization in order to support the arts and the local artists in the community. Throughout the years DAL has provided opportunities for local artists to display their works, learn new techniques, and to promote the art in the community. DAL now has some 70 members and is always welcoming new artists. DAL invites artists of all kinds to join along with those who support the arts or those who just want to “Fall Back” and learn more about the arts.
