Volunteers at the Museum
Volunteers keep the Museum alive! Whether you are a student needing volunteer hours, a new resident hoping to meet people and learn about Danville, or a Danville native with stories to tell, we need you.
There are numerous ways to volunteer.
The Museum is always looking for Greeters. You are the first person to greet a visitor when they walk through our doors. Greeters are stationed inside the main entrance and welcome guests. They also provide information and help visitors start their tour of the Mansion. Help is often needed in our gift shop. Stuffing envelopes, assisting with classes and workshops, and taking part in special programs like decorating the Sutherlin Mansion for the Holidays are just a few ways you can volunteer at the Museum.

DMFAH Volunteer of the Year 2021
Volunteer of the Year 2020 & 2021
While Volunteers are generally recognized every April, when we celebrate National Volunteer Week — a time to recognize the power of volunteers and their profound impact on advancing important social issues, improving our communities and changing our world. But this year because of Covid19 regulations, we are making our announcement on recognition rewards a little later in the year. We want all our volunteers to feel valued 365 days a year.
The DMFAH Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes those outstanding event volunteers whose unselfish and dedicated service to a museum program or event has made a significant difference in our community and mirrors the commitment to success in our professional ranks. On Friday June 11, Helen Earle was unanimously selected as outstanding volunteer during the Pandemic year and now for 2021. Helen is a current DMFAH member who has provided significant enthusiasm throughout the pandemic. She always had a smile under her mask and offered tremendous support to the DMFAH staff who were often understaffed during that period. Helen is a Master Gardener and her green thumb keeps not only a splendid potted garden for the DMFAH, but the garden is always “visual soul food” for all. Helen’s specific organizational assistance with the WANDERLOVE program - teaching Fiber Lab workshops from January - May on Wednesday mornings, was phenomenal. She heads up the Museum's Annual Attic Sale Fundraiser Volunteer Committee, and will be leading the charge on this very popular community event to be held this coming August. Thank you Helen for all that you are doing for the DMFAH and the Danville Community.
The DMFAH Volunteer of the Year Committee, comprised of members of the DMFAH staff and Board of Directors, reviewed all nominations and selected the Volunteer of the Year winner.
